The Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Prince Obi Ohia has commended the State Government for ensuring peace and stability in the state.
Ohia who made the commendation, Tuesday, in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area during a Town Hall meeting for Youths, also lauded the State Government for embarking on the construction of Ogu/Wakama road, advocated for Youth inclusiveness in the scheme of things at the Local Government level.
The Commissioner who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Roland Obed Whyte, and a select team encouraged political office holders, especially at the Local Government level, to ensure that the Youths are considered in elective and appointive positions to promote mentorship for young people in the society.
Ohia stressed the need for youths to be incorporated in all aspects of leadership which will ensure a smooth transfer of knowledge and good governance.
He however warned Youths against violence, thuggery and other societal vices and appealed to them to exhibit attributes of potential leaders.
According to him, “Youths should demonstrate high levels of responsibility and decorum in a manner that would earn them the confidence of those in authority and elders at large”.
The commissioner frowned at the high level of eroded value system in the society which he regrets promotes materialism, and urged the Youths to work hard in order to create legacies that would outlive them.
Ohia used the opportunity to announce that approval has been given by the Ministry for the Ogu Youth election to hold on the 17th of July, as the youth group has successfully passed the revalidation requirements as stipulated by the state government through the Ministry of Youth Development.
The commissioner however strongly warned them against violence or breach of the existing peace in the local government area before, during and after the Ogu youth election.
He, however appealed to the council chairman to make youths an integral part of his administration for easy transfer of knowledge to the younger generation and promote mentorship.
Earlier, the Rivers state commissioner for sports development, Hon Boma Iyaye, the member representing Ogu/Bolo in the State House of Assembly Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi and the Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government, Hon. Vincent Nemieboka charged youths to maintain the existing peace as critical stakeholders in the local government.
They urged the youth to eschew all forms of youthful exuberance and negative tendencies that are capable of truncating their dreams, and implored them to imbibe good morals and values and channel their energies towards positive ventures.
