Women Group Makes Case For Rivers South -East Governor In 2023
A group of women in Ogoni land have vowed to throw their weight behind any political party in Rivers State that floats a governorship candidate from the Rivers South East Senatorial District.
Speaking with newsmen during a peace walk in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, the leader of the group, Mrs Nuka Sordum Isaac, stated that Ogoni women will not support any political party that did not zone its governorship ticket to Rivers South East Senetorial District.
According to her, since Rivers State was created no Ogoni person had governed the state, adding that the time for other senatorial districts to support an Ogoni son is now.
The group leader urged all Ogoni women to come out and support any political party that zones its governship ticket to Ogoni land.
“We are going to ensure that we mobilise women in Ogoni land not to vote for any political party that doesn’t zone its governship ticket to Ogoniland” Mrs Isaac said.
Also speaking, a business woman and member of the group, Mrs Konwi Bariledum, said that since she was born, she had not heard that any Ogoni person had ruled Rivers state, stressing that Ogoni women were ready to support any political party that zones its governorship ticket to Ogoniland.
“ We have been voting for other senatorial districts to become the governor of the state for long; this is the time others should support Ogoni governorship.
“We are going to stand our ground to support an Ogoni person to become the governor of Rivers state come 2023 governorship election.
“We heard that APC has zoned its governorship ticket to the riverine, we are not going to vote for APC come next year “ Mrs Bariledum stated.
