Akawor Tasks Rivers People On Voters’ Registration
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Amb Desmond Akawor, has stressed the need for the State to maintain an enviable position as one of the states with the highest number of voters in the country.
Akawor said this when “The Rivers Equity”, a socio-political group in the State, paid him a courtesy call in his office in Port Harcourt.
He said the only way to do this is through continuous sensitisation of the people to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The PDP Chairman said a lot has been done to ensure that other states do not overtake Rivers State as the third state with the highest number of voters in the country.
He described The Rivers Equity as a group with high calibre of persons, adding that the party will support the group to enable it succeed.
Akawor also commended the members of the group for sensitising the public on the need to get their permanent voters card .
Earlier, the Coordinator of the group, Elder Clapton Ogolo, said the visit was to intimate him of their activities.
He said the organisation has embarked on sensitisation programmes round the 2023 local government areas with a view to ensuring that they maintain peace during elections.
According to him, the group preaches non-violence. He hinted that flyers have been distributed to market women on the need for peace and for them to also get their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC).
He commended the party chairman for his leadership qualities and pledged the support of the group to the party leadership.
