CAF Champions League: Rivers United Beat Watanga FC 3-0 In PH
Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt yesterday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt in Rivers State defeated Watanga FC of Liberia 3-0 in the preliminary round,1st leg tie of the CAF Champions League.
The pride of the state, who got the early lead in the 15th minute of the first half by Agu Augustine, saw them in control of the round leather game.
Speaking with Tidesports in an exclusive interview shortly after the game, a member representing Abua/Odual Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Sokolo Solomon, praised the performance of Rivers United FC players.
According to him, the result of the game was not a bad one, adding that the players put in they best efforts to ensure they got the result.
He explained that the pride of Rivers got the job done in the 1st half of the game by scoring the three goals.
“It was a game of two halves. Rivers United FC got the job done in the first half of the game and they decided to conserve their energies for the away game.
“It was not a bad result,” Hon Solomon said.
United got the second goal in the 25 minutes of the first half by Duru Gideon through his fine shot that deflected into the net of Watanga FC while Acquah Paul made it three goals for the pride of Rivers.
Hon. Solomon used the medium to call on Rivers United FC players to do better in the return leg of the game coming up in a forth night.
