Rotary Clubs Donate 150 Desks To Rivers School
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt North, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Express and Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Phoenix, have donated 150 desks to Community Comprehensive School, Rumuokwurusi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State amid applause and jubilation.
The clubs, which partnered to reach out to the school recently, said the gesture is part of contributing their quota to the development of education in the state.
While commissioning the desks and presenting same to the school, District Governor 9141, Mr Mightyman Aye Dikuro enjoined the school to use the facility for the purpose it was donated and regretted that some students of the school were sitting on the floor to learn before the intervention of the Rotary Clubs.
He, however, promised that the clubs would in due course offer scholarship to three outstanding students of the school.
On her part, the Zonal Director of Senior Secondary School Board, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Mrs Esther Owhorchukwu, while thanking the clubs for the gesture said the school and residents of the area were really happy with the organisations but like Oliver Twist urged them to do more.
The Principal of Community Comprehensive School, Rumuokwurusi, Mrs Charity Owoeye, who was visibly elated, said the gesture did not come to her as a surprise as Rotary Clubs have been of immense assistance to the school in the past, and thanked them for the gesture.
She recalled that Rotary Club had earlier come to the aid of the school by building two toilet facilities for the school, describing the desks donated by the clubs as a wonderful gesture.
Mrs Owoeye, however, urged other well meaning Nigerians to follow the foot steps of the three Rotary Clubs.
