Archbishop Bags UN Peace Ambassador Award
The Archbishop of Christ Army Church, Nigeria, Most Rev. Ibiba Siri, has bagged a United Nations Peace Ambassador Award.
The award was conferred on him during the 25th Diocesan Women Conference of the church, held at its headquarters, Bakana, in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Director General, UN-POLAC and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Professor Lion Halo Eton, said UN-POLAC’s mission is meant to advance world peace through improvement in health, support for education, alleviation of poverty and promotion of peace.
He said the organisation had set some goals which include completion of the UN-POLAC orientation and the need to make the organisation more effective and efficient by testing and refining its future vision plan.
Eton, who was represented by the organisation’s Director of Project and Corporate Governance, Rev. Gilbert Awajimijan, urged every new appointee to contribute towards the growth of the organisation.
He described Most Rev. Siri as a man of peace, saying the award qualifies him to apply for visa and diplomatic passport.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after receiving the award, Siri commended the organisation for honouring him, saying the award was an indication that God always rewards those who labour in his vineyard.
He stressed the need for people to give selfless service to the work of God, adding that “greed, jealousy and other vices do not pay”.
Also speaking, chairperson, Diocesan Women Conference, Port Harcourt Diocese of the church, Mrs Mary Songo Duke, said the women were grateful for the honour done to their bishop.
She said the two-day programme, which had over 2,000 women in attendance, examined various issues relating to spiritual growth of the women, the church and families.
