Provost Scores INEC High On Polls
The Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Dr Emmanuel Ikemjiri, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the way and manner it conducted the just-concluded governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State, saying, the elections were free, fair and credible.
Ikemjiri, who made the remarks in an interview with newsmen in Omoku, said INEC deserves commendation for the tremendous improvement recorded during the elections, especially in the successful deployment of BVAS coupled with early arrival of electoral materials.
According to him, the process was more transparent, judging from previous elections.
The Provost further noted that the zeal with which the electorate came out in their numbers to cast their ballot was a clear indication that democracy in Nigeria has come to stay, and applauded them for their peaceful disposition during and after the elections.
He said the peace currently being enjoyed in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area can never be compromised, despite political differences and divides of political actors in the area, and commended the leaders of political parties for ensuring that their supporters played by the rules during the polls.
The Provost urgesed winners of the elections to endeavor to carry along everybody in the area, saying, politics is not supposed to divide and create disaffection and bad blood among the people, who, he noted, have a common heritage.
Ikemjiri, however, commended the Federal Government for transforming his school through the various agencies, stressing that his administration on assumption of office put several measures in place to actually make the transformation of the college possible.
According to him, the school is today one of the best Technical Colleges in the country as it currently boasts of world class infrastructure.
Ikemjiri expressed delight that all courses offered by the institution have been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), adding that it is a thing of joy that the college has good internal road networks and also enjoys regular power supply, among other amenities and facilities that have made learning very conducive.
He, therefore, appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their wards utilise the prevailing conducive atmosphere in the school for their academic pursuits.
