Fubara’s Aide, Others Laud Electorate, RSIEC Over Peaceful Elections
Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Political Matters and Strategies, Barrister Forgiven Amachree; the Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari, and a stalwart of the “Simplified Movement”, Chief Dennis Warmann, have applauded the electorate across Ahoada-West Local Government Area for their peaceful disposition during the October 5 local government elections.
The trio, who also commended the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), described the polls as generally free, fair and transparent across wards of the local government.
Speaking with newsmen in Akinima Town, headquarters of the local government and central collation centre for the polls, the political leaders noted that the massive turnout of voters at various wards and polling units to exercise their franchise speaks volumes on the importance of the grassroot government.
They, however, expressed regrets that their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declined participating in the polls, saying upon the unwarranted threats by some undemocratic elements in the State to undermine the powers of the electoral umpire and thwart the polls, the electoral body and electorate had again demonstrated their resilience and patriotism.
“There’re 19 registered political parties in this country known to us in Rivers State, but out of these, 18 fielded candidates and participated in the polls, except one, the PDP.
“So, we want to commend RSIEC for the transparent exercise. We also want to commend the electorate all over Ahoada-West LGA for peacefully exercising their franchise.
“We regret that the PDP, our party, didn’t participate in the polls. But elections just have to be conducted because our leader, the Governor of the State, is one who believes in the sanctity of a democratically constituted local government system.
“Across the various wards and units of the LGA, the elections were held and voters voted freely for candidates of their choices without any form of threat or fear, irrespective of the absence of security operatives”, the political leaders said.
