\nFederal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sunday Oghenekaro has called on fleet owners to institute welfare package for their drivers inorder to perform better and adhere to traffic rules and regulation.
\nOghenekaro, who made the call while fielding question from stakeholders during a forum in Port Harcourt on Monday said the need for welfare of fleet drivers could not be over-emphasised as a sound mind depicts sound ideas and reasoning.
\nAccording to him, fleet owners should ensure that their drivers have good offices, conveniences, contract with general or private hospitals for regular check-ups and also access the performance of their drivers.
\nThe sector commander also advocated for an annual award for fleet operators to ginger them for improved services, as well as built bus terminus and also ensure a particular brand of cars were purchased for easy services.
\nHe said the performance of the fleet drivers could be enhanced through training and retraining, adding that FRSC is willing to train such drivers as they are knowledgeable to give them the best training and issue them certificates.
\nOghenekaro, who also used the forum to warn fleet owners not to allow alcohol to be sold in their premises or in parks for the safety of the lives of their drivers and the passengers harped that, \u201clet the public know your company as a good and responsible one to patronize, clean your environment without waiting for Environmental Sanitation Authorities to remind you. He also enjoined all Nigeria road users to cooperate with the FRSC, exercise patience\u00a0 by avoiding indiscriminate over-taking, excess over speeding, over \u2013loading among for safety lives and property stressing that, safety is a collective responsibility, that could be shared.
