The National Assembly Joint Committee on Aviation has vowed to bring to book every group\u00a0 or individual that is responsible\u00a0 for delay in execution of projects at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
\nMaking this known to journalists at\u00a0 the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa\u00a0 during an\u00a0 inspection\u00a0 tour at the airport as part of its oversight function, the leader\u00a0 of the Joint Committee and chairman the\u00a0 Senate Committee\u00a0 on aviation, Senator\u00a0 Mohammed Adamu Alero, said the visit to the airport was to assertain\u00a0 the state\u00a0 of the airport so far.
\nHe said the committee has come to know the level of accomplishment on project that had been awarded\u00a0 since\u00a0 2012 till date, pointing out that so much delay had been recorded in project execution at the Port Harcourt airport, especially the domestic arrival terminal building.
\n“We are on an oversight function of the Joint Committee of the National Assembly made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
\n“We have just finished with the Enugu International Airport, and what we found out was discouraging. The Enugu airport is not save for flight operations. The Run-way is very bad, and other facilities at the airport have\u00a0 deteriorated\u00a0 while some airline operators like\u00a0 Aero contractor no longer operate there.
\n“This is what we have come to see\u00a0 and we all make sure that people responsible for these malfunctioning are\u00a0 invited by the National\u00a0 Assembly to explain what they know”, Alero said.
\nThe Senate aviation committee boss,\u00a0 however, expressed satisfaction with the run-way at Port Harcourt airport, and the level of work so far done at the new International wing of the Port Harcourt airport being handled\u00a0 by the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company\u00a0 (CCECC) which they said will be ready in April 2018.
\nNevertheless, Alero lambasted the Contractor handling the arrival terminal building\u00a0 of the airport, Inter-Ban Construction Limited,\u00a0 for gross delay, inspite of receiving over 70 per cent of the sum for the contracts\u00a0 but doing only 40 per cent of the job.
\nAlso speaking after the\u00a0 inspection tour the Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, Mrs Nkiruka Onyejiocha said the behaviour of some\u00a0 constructors and workers at the airport does not show that they are Nigerians.
\nShe said the National\u00a0 Assembly will do its work with out fear or favour, adding that those to be invited will be invited and that necessary\u00a0 actions will be taken against them where applicable.
\nThe committee went through the key areas at the airport with FAAN Officers accompanying\u00a0 the committee, while\u00a0 some of the committee members includes Ben Murray Brince\u00a0 and Hon. Boma Goodhead.<\/p>\n
