No fewer than 70 institutions in the country are to be trained on international funds access by Training and Human Development Centre, Abuja.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director of the Centre, Miss Yemi Esho, said this last Saturday, while briefing newsmen in Abuja on the centre\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n

She said most institutions lacked the ideas on how to make proposals that would enable them to access funds from international funding institutions.<\/p>\n

According to Esho, these institutions cut across universities, polytechnics, colleges of educations and other allied institutions.<\/p>\n

She said the funds were lying fallow waiting for genuine proposals on research and capacity building.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost universities and other institutions have units responsible for international funds access, though they do not understand the guidelines on how to make good proposals as poor proposals were not given considerations,\u2019\u2019 Esho said.<\/p>\n

According to her, the event and entertainment centre is expecting more than 70 institutions in Nigeria and six funding institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigerian banks should network with those funding institutions so as to facilitate fund access,\u2019\u2019 she added.<\/p>\n

Esho said some of the funding agencies that would participate in the September training were the Science and Technical Education in Post Basic (STEPB), UNDP and WHO, among others.<\/p>\n

Chinyere Njoku, the Project Coordinator, said the training was beginning with education sector due to its crucial value to the society.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will start with education and then move to agriculture and health, though they are important too\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if you are going into agriculture, you will have the knowledge before you go in, so we have to start with education first and then go into agriculture,\u2019\u2019 Njoku said.<\/p>\n

She said the government alone could not fund education to global standards, stressing the need to diversify sources of funding through Public Private Partnership initiative.<\/p>\n

Njoku called on government to come to terms with the striking unions in the education sector so as to ensure that all institutions attend the training slated for September 28 to September 31.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
