No Sir, we must hold the Federal Government responsible for the economic woes. Political actors in the habit of standing up for their political parties in almost every issue. Sadly!
\nHowever, it is expected that a politician should stand up for the truth all the time, whether what has been thrown up favours his political affiliation, or not. Political actors must play the game according to the rules which also includes standing by ethical standards.
\nRecently, the governor of Katsina State, the home state of President Buhari, Alhaji Animu Masari in a recent political programme on Channels Television spoke on salient issues of National Importance.
\nThe former speaker of House of Representatives said the Federal Government was not responsible for the economic woes of Nigeria.
\nAccording to him COVID-19 is responsible for the large scale poverty and inflation in Nigeria. Masari said President Buhari had done well in improving the lots of the down trodden. He scored the president very high in Human development index.
\nThe Governor did not present realistic facts as it concerns the economics of Nigeria and the present political dispensation.
\nWhen President Buhari took over the reigns of power in 2015, Nigeria Slumped into a recession in the very first quarter.
\nAll economic indices nosedived because of his negative approach in driving the wheel of the economy. His emergence led to capital flight. Direct foreign investment dropped, because investors were afraid to invest in an economy that had been widely propagated by the president globally as very corrupt.
\nSadly, when the economy began to recover; Insecurity dealt more deadly blows.
\nRecall that the present administration has three cardinal agenda, namely, security, economic growth and job creation and corruption.
\nIt is clear that even if the most critical apologist of the president draws up a marking scheme to score him in these sectors, the score line will be far below average.
\nInsecurity has currently assumed a terrorist dimension in every part of Nigeria with new groups emerging on daily basis with new names.
\nBoko Haram of different sects, Bandits, Killer Herdsmen and serial kidnappers have practically taken over the North.
\nEthnic tension has increased. These phenomena were there before COVID-19. Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world before COVID-19 pandemic.
\nThe current indices by the National Bureau for statistics which is the bone of contention, only confirms the steady slump of the Nigerian economy and the sliding of the nation into a failed state.
\nCOVID-19 cannot be the reason why Nigeria should always be on the lowest rungs of every global indices.
\nAmong 198 countries Nigeria ranked second in the unemployment index.
\nCOVID-19 is a Global Phenomenon, why should Nigeria continue to be among the worst in all development indices?
\nThe truth is that the president has failed in his promise to create job for Nigerians. The N.B.S puts the unemployment rate at 33.3 per cent.
\nThis is a clear indication that his \u201cTrader Money\u201d, \u201cfarmer money\u201d pittance and beggarly handouts to persons in A.P.C. States has failed.
\nSadly Governor Masari celebrated these peasant programmes as the bench-mark for the President\u2019s success story in Nigeria. According to him so much money has been put into the hands of Nigerians. How much Sir and what are the visible impacts?
\nYes, he may be right, probably so much money has been put into many corrupt hands. There are indications that this may be the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria as recently observed by the U.S. agency, C.I.A.
\nLarge sums of money are announced, without corresponding deliverables in many sectors. Some commentators tag them audio budgets. The list is endless, school feeding, and money for the supply of arms for the execution of war against insurgency among others. Fight against insurgency has remained a drain pipe of the nation\u2019s budget.
\nThe scale of corruption in Nigeria is longer than Niger Bridge and Lagos Kano rail line plus the Kano-Niger Republic rail lines constructions, put together. Nigeria\u2019s marginal exit from recession should not be celebrated because, recession in this dispensation is like the poetic Abiku that comes and goes these several seasons.
\nPolitical office holders should talk less and do more.
\nNo Sir, this government has failed.
