The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, yesterday said effective management and dissemination of undistorted information by the relevant stakeholders\u00a0 to the public would help curb insecurity in the country.
\nYahaya said this at the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) 2022 Media Workshop with\u00a0 the theme: \u201cHarnessing Whole of Society Approach to Curb the Menace of Information Disorder: National Security in Perspective.\u201d
\nThe COAS was represented by the Chief of Supply and Transportation of the Nigerian Army (NA),\u00a0 Brig.-Gen. Lateef Jimoh,\u00a0 at a workshop held at\u00a0 the NA\u2019s\u00a0 Officers\u2019 Mess, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
\nYahaya said managing security challenges in the country depended solely on effective dissemination of information orchestrated by mutual support among various security agencies and stakeholders in information management.
\n\u201cIt is pertinent to note that with the media as partners in progress, the military and other relevant security agencies have recorded a lot of successes in our various operations.
\n\u201cI, therefore, urge that the synergy be aggressively sustained so that efforts in protecting our national security will be conveyed to the general public through positive narratives,\u201d he said.
\nSimilarly, Yahaya called on Nigerian media practitioners and other stakeholders in information management to consider the propagation of the\u00a0 message of peace as their responsibility.
\n\u201cThis is done by ensuring that you release objective and factual stories that will foster national cohesion.
\n\u201cThis is achievable through propagation of messages and narratives that are not detrimental to our national unity.
\n\u201cThe achievement of national security as we all know is the collective responsibility of all citizens of our great nation,\u201d he said.
\nHe added that the focus of the\u00a0 workshop was how to\u00a0 confront information disorder including misinformation, through holistic mobilisation of the whole society with national security in perspective.
\nHe reminded the participants that the nation was contending with numerous security challenges such as: insurgency, armed banditry, separatist agitations, kidnap for ransom among other social vices.<\/p>\n
