Rivers State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Apawari Uranta, has called on voluntary uniformed organisations in the State to double their efforts to instil moral discipline among the youths.
\nThe Commissioner, who gave the charge recently when the Girls Guide Association, Rivers State Branch, led by its State Commissioner, Lady Daba Harry, paid a courtesy visit to her in her office, expressed delight over the activities and programmes of the association in educating the girl child in the society.
\nShe said, \u201cI have been longing to join the Association as a member when I was much younger, but was not able to, due to other commitments.
\n\u201cNow providence has made it easier as I am now appointed a Matron as a result of my position as Commissioner\u201d, she stated.
\nPromising to facilitate their visit to Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Fubara, wife of the State Governor, the Commissioner assured the Leadership that her Ministry would always partner with them to improve the lot of the girl child to take her rightful position in the community.
\nShe thanked the Association for the honour accorded her by her appointment as Matron.
\nEarlier in her speech, the State Commissioner of the Association, Lady Daba Harry, had congretulated the Commissioner on her appointment and offered to cooperate with her to succeed.
\nLady Harry said, \u201cthe Association is prepared to create the needed environment for girls and young women to develop their full potentials to serve the Society as responsible citizens\u201d.
\nShe further said, \u201cwe will positively impact on the girl child to be an asset to herself and the community at all times\u201d.
\nHighlight of the visit was the presentation of the Association\u2019s Uniform materials to the Commissioner as their Matron.<\/p>\n
