\nManager, South South \/South East of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Ebele Okoye, says that the remodelling project at the Port Harcourt International Airport has reached advance stages of completion and would be commissioned within the first quarter of next year.
\nMrs Okoye, who disclosed this Tuesday to newsmen, said most of the facilities had been installed at the terminal building for local and International passengers.
\nShe hinted that the departure hall is almost completed and would be reopened before the end of November, since the Ministry of Aviation has provided state of the art equipment.
\nThe Regional General Manager said passengers would soon smile as the scanners and other equipment needed to facilitate operation have been procured and the agencies that will use them NDLEA, Immigration have been shown the places where they will be installed.
\nAccording\u00a0 to her, some equipment that are imported from outside are yet to arrive such as the check-in counter and conveyor belt to facilitate movement of baggage, promising that before the end of November operations will commence at the departure hall.
\nMrs Okeye said that more airlines have applied to operate the Port Harcourt route as a result of improvements in the facilities while three new cargo airlines are plying to come to the airport.
\nShe said the international terminal are being cleared, the pilots lounge is being completed while the multi storey car park will be built to accommodate more cars.
\nThe General Manager also hinted that security of passengers are guaranteed, more policemen has been redeployed to complement the existing ones, machines for detecting unfriendly persons and for crowd control without obstructing normal operations.<\/p>\n
